New Year’s resolution from a fellow fabricholic!

Help, I need a 12 step program!!! It is like I woke up one day and *poof* I practically have a fabric store in my sewing cave!  Where did it all come from?  I promise that I only went to the fabric store once, slightly under the influence, and came back with goodies that I didn’t really need… but that is another story.  The rest, well… is history now. Yes, I am girl that fellow QUTI girls come to when they need just a little bit of black, or a little bit of Wonder Under, or a little bit of this or that… yes, I usually deliver and don’t let my girlies down!

So here it goes, a public announcement to the world… wait for it…. wait for it….

I, Linda, vow not to buy any fabric in 2012.  There, I said it.  Whew… I feel so righteous!  Can I do it?  Eeek! I have more than I will ever need to complete at least a year’s worth of projects.  And to honor our family’s financial goals, it is the least I can do… and I might even have fun at it!  My husband better watch his back… you know, literally, as I might need to re-purpose his nice work shirts to stitch in desperate times and desperate measures…

Oh, to all of my online and local retailers, don’t worry, I will still support our nation’s economy with scads of notions, and stuff… you know, it takes more than fabric to make cherished memories!

What is your sewing resolution!  I will pick a winner on January 6th based on the most wild, silly and most QUTI comment out there.  Happy wild and righteous planning!

Cheers!  Linda at Quilting Under The Influence

P.S., aka Footnote, aka disclosure…  That doesn’t mean I can’t participate in a fabric exchange or accept fabric gifts… come on, I have to be reasonable with my resolutions, right?  :-)

Do your quilts hang low, do they wobble to and fro?

Can you tie them in a knot, can you tie them in a bow…? Hang-Ups are QUTI’s new fav!!!

While trying to transform Ella’s room to meet her new 5 year old expectations (her what??? Exactly…I digress)… I Googled (is that actually a word yet?), to find an easy way to hang a few quilts.  Her stark white walls needed a quick splash of color!

Yippee!  Look what I found!

It was a miracle that I could find tacks and voila, I had wall art!  Check it out!

Hung Up!

As for the quilt, it was a first attempt at a quilt concept I am in the process of perfecting, I hate the trunk, but love Ella’s Pre-Kindergarten friends in the tree…

Here is how you use them, I loved how I could just use tacks for a quick install or use the cool hard core tape option-I am now a quilt hanging rock star!  Ok, not really, but I felt righteous!

What are other ways you use to hang and display your quilts?

Cheers!   Linda at www.quti.org

Angry Birds for Birthday! An off… but on… topic post!

Grandma Diane and Great Aunty Linda visits Hawaii for Zack’s 8th Birthday!  What a whirlwind of fun! Grandma always makes an original and creative cake for the kid’s birthday and this year was no different.  Following a previous themed post (http://wp.me/p1JRkn-8i), Grandma decided to create an Angry Bird masterpiece!

She ordered the birds online with her new iPad (yes, she is that hip). Next step, did you know that sling slots don’t seem to exist in Hawaii?  We searched, called, and foraged to no avail…and bought a bamboo rice paddle to transform into a sling.   Brian, my lovely husband carved, dremeled and sanded it into a lovely art piece.

In standard form, Grandma super glued her thumb to the Angry Bird sling…you know, the rubber band portion that completes DIY sling?  She decided to use a knife to separate the two… eeek!

We transported the cake carefully with over an hour commute to the amazing Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden (http://www1.honolulu.gov/parks/hbg/hmbg.htm) in Hawaii for Zack’s Fishing Birthday Party!  And wouldn’t you guess it, it poured with sheets of rain for two hours straight and EVERYTHING but the cake got drenched!  I will spare you with the dripping wet pics!  Zack said it was an awesome party and he LOVED fishing and stomping in the mud!  Of course!!!  A great time was had by all!

The QUTI team rests, while Brian makes a culinary treat!

Yummmm… Sushi night!  I don’t know if this is your idea of sushi night, but this is what I came home to tonight!  What a treat!  What might I ever have to complain about…?

Blessed… here it is… an enhanced iteration of sushi night with a tempura twist!

The last photo was Ella’s contribution-of course… Kinda like the twilight zone that I call home!  And… fade to black…  Peace out…

Cheers!  Linda at QUTI

Ok, ok, guys, I now get it… Duct Tape Rocks!

Well, so does Simply Sublime Bags, 30 No-Sew, Low-Sew Projects by Jodi Kahn!  I have never met her or have an affiliation, so take this review to heart-go out and buy this book!

In 34 minutes, yes ladies, 34 minutes, the bag hag (me) was back in business!  It could have been more efficient except my little angel, Ella (thus, the “under the influence of children theme), wanted to “help.”

Going over to Kelly’s house with the new bag… tata for now… Cheers!
